POLICE CLOSE HEROIN MARKET AT HAMLIN & OHIO – ARREST 9 GANG MEMBERS



    Chicago Police Narcotics Division officers climaxed a 2-month investigation tracking a recent spike in shootings and violence linked to street corner narcotics sales in the area of Ohio Street and Hamlin Avenue in the 11th District. Officers conducted strategic surveillance, recorded drug sales, made covert buys of narcotics, and infiltrated the gang operating the drug operation. They identified a dozen key targets.
    On Saturday, April 28, nine offenders identified as members of the Conservative Vice Lords street gang were arrested as police shut down drug sales and seized heroin with a street value of $3,000, plus $6,700 in cash after observing and stopping the vehicle of a convicted narcotics offender. Three additional targets of this investigation are being sought.

Manufacturing/Delivery of Heroin

Jermaine Rose, 20,
400 block of N. Ridgeway;
Possession of a Controlled Substance

Quentin Scott, 23,
700 block of N. Hamlin; Warrant-Dangerous Drugs

SECOND CHANCE OPENS SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY AT 5900 WEST NORTH AVENUE

Roslynn Hogan enthusiastically explains to friends, family, and community residents the programs her Second Chance Housing & Development agency will be providing. The occasion is the Grand Opening of the organization at 5900 West North Avenue. Centerpieces of the ambitious program are free computer training, GED preparation, academic assistance and tutoring, parenting & mentoring development, and sports & recreational activities to deter youth from gangs, drugs, and dropping out of school.
